We recently welcomed our newest partner to The Clubhouse Network. On February 19, a new Best Buy Teen Tech Center under the auspices of the St. Paul Downtown YMCA held its grand opening. It is the 5th Teen Tech Center in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and the 23rd in the U.S. As a member of The Clubhouse Network, this center joins our international community of more than 100 Clubhouses located in 18 countries, providing youth with life-changing opportunities for 25 years.
“In partnership with Best Buy and the Richard M. Schulze Foundation, I am thrilled to welcome the St. Paul YMCA to The Clubhouse Network,” said Gail Breslow, Executive Director. “I’m confident local teens will find a second home as part of this creative, STEM-rich community.”
St. Paul youth will have opportunities to learn and grow with technology like 3-D printing, music production, graphic design, video editing, and more. Andrea Wood, head of Social Impact at Best Buy said, “We don’t want it to feel like school. We want people to come in and learn something. Then start a project, and then think about a career. It’s about a process of opening their eyes and building skills.” At The Clubhouse, we know that people learn best when they are actively engaged in designing, creating, and inventing, not just passively receiving information. Since 2012, Best Buy has partnered with The Clubhouse Network to build Best Buy Teen Tech Centers. The Clubhouse Network and Best Buy plan to launch 16 Tech Centers in 2019. Best Buy believes that technology can empower people to dream big and accomplish great things. Across the country, many communities lack support and access to the tools and experiences that can unlock a better future and prepare teens for the challenges ahead. As a member of The Clubhouse Network, a Teen Tech Center embraces The Network’s mission.
The new Best Buy Teen Tech Center in downtown St. Paul is located at 4th and Cedar Street on the ground floor and is now open to area youth. It’s accessible via the Central Station on Metro Transit’s Green Line.
